Wiedereinstieg – HP macht wieder Smartphones
Hewlett-Packards plant den Wiedereinstieg in den Smartphone-Markt. Im Februar bringt HP zwei neue Geräte in Indien auf den Markt, wie Ron Coughlin, Chef der HP-Konsumenten-PC-Sparte erklärt.
“We see a need in India that we can meet,” sagt Coughlin. “Consumers are looking for a way to consolidate devices. We think there’s an opportunity to enter a growing market where there’s an unmet need.”
Die Slate 6 VoiceTab (im Bild) bzw. Slate 7 VoiceTab genannten Android-Phablets mit 6- bzw. 7-Zoll-Display (1.280 x 720 bzw. 1.280 x 800 Pixel) kommen mit einem Quadcore-CPU, 16 GB Speicher, microSD-Slot, 2- und 5-MP-Kameras und Stereolautsprechern. Preise wurden noch nicht genannt.
Bereits im September 2013 sagte HP CEO Meg Whitman in einem Interview zu den Gerüchten ein Android-Gerät in Indien herauszubringen, “we have to ultimately offer a smartphone because in many countries of the world that is your first computing device. You know, there will be countries around the world where people may never own a tablet, or a PC or a desktop. They will do everything on the smartphone. We’re a computing company; we have to take advantage of that form factor. … We did take a detour into smartphones, and we’ve got to get it right this time. My mantra to the team is: ‘Better right than faster than we should be there.’ So we’re working to make sure that when we do this, it will be the right thing for Hewlett-Packard, and we will be successful.”
